Welcome Year 1

  Mr Williams

Here are a few important messages to help the year run smoothly and your child have a great year in Year 1.

Your child will be given new books to bring home to read on a Friday every week. Try and read with your child and chat about the stories for at least 4 times a week and record this in their reading book.  It is useful to ask questions about the book you are reading so the children build good comprehension skills. We will listen to the children read daily during Guided Reading sessions. The children will have a weekly spelling challenge on a Thursday and will receive spellings for the following week.. Please practise these at home.

P.E will take place on Thursday. We will also have extra P.E sessions so please ensure that children have their P.E kits in school.

Finally, please make sure that your child has pumps in school.

If you ever have any concerns please do not hesitate to speak to any of the Year 1 team.

Thank you

In Year 1 at the moment we are having a big push on Phonics. The children need to learn, know and use the sounds to help them improve their reading, writing and spelling.
