Year 1 Phonic Screening Check - June 2026
The Year 1 Phonic Screening Check is a short test to confirm if the children have learned to decode to an age appropriate standard. It takes place in June with their class teacher. Children are asked to read 40 words, some of these will be pseudo 'alien' words. We teach phonics every day in Year 1.
Your child will be given a book linked to their phonics level. Please read with your child at home at least 4 times a week, books will be changed on a Friday.

We are an OPAL school. Children will play outdoors in almost any weather! Please make sure your child has a pair of wellies to keep at school. Spare clothes and socks are also a good idea.
